Hawking mass and curvature functionals in asymptotically flat manifolds

Hawking is an important Quasi-local mass in General relativity. In this talk, I will first introduce the relationship between Hawking mass and the Willmore functional. Then we discuss the minimizers of curvature functionals (Willmore functional and extrinsic energy functional) subject to an area constraint in asymptotically flat manifolds. Under some certain conditions, I will show that such minimizers exist.

Speaker Profile: Associate Professor Wei Guodong is currently employed at the School of Mathematics, Sun Yat-sen University (Zhuhai). Graduated from the Institute of Mathematics, Chinese Academy of Sciences in June 2018, with a doctoral degree. From July 2018 to June 2020, I conducted postdoctoral research at Peking University. At present, my main research interests lie in the geometry of scalar curvature and mathematical problems in general relativity. I have published over ten papers in journals such as Trans. AMS, Crelle, Math. Ann, and Math. Z.
